FEAST OF SACRIFICE

My Muslim friends, colleagues, students and blog visitors celebrate Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice today.  Eid al-Adha marks the last day of the Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca and other cities in Saudi Arabia.

Eid al-Adha is celebrated with the slaughter of animals like cows and goats. The meat is used in traditional meals, with some distributed to the poor.

Muslims believe that Nabi Ibrahim (Prophet Abraham) was asked to sacrifice his son as a testament to his obedience to Allah, but after proving his will to do so, he was told to sacrifice a ram instead.
