I am sure that many would be wondering who Faisal Hussein Wong is, right? But if I mention Wong Fei Hong, everyone would immediately think of Jet Li's portrayal of the real-life Kungfu master who has been immortalised in films.
Actually, according to Guangzhou folklore it is said that Wong Fei Hung is actually a Muslim. His Muslim identity was kept secret as a result of the deislamisation resultant from the Manchu Qing Dynasty anti-Islamic policy as well as the Nationalist regime's attempt to destroy Islam in China.
Wong Fei Hong's Islamic name was Faisal Hussein Wong. He was born into a Muslim family.
